On Saturday 3 May 2008 President of the Smithfield RSL FIshing Club Mr. Ellis Noack presented a cheque for $2,000.00 to President of the Shoalhaven Marine Rescue Association Mr. Bill Carter. In his speech Mr. Noack commented on the long history of association between the two organisations and the fishing clubs commitment to the SMRA and their assistance to the boating community and the annual Camp Quality day out in March of every year. This cheque will go to the purchase of a new rescue vessel to replace SA-8 which is now 28 years old and in need of upgrading to a faster, safer rescue vessel.

Shoalhaven Marine Rescue Association Radio Operator George Johnston has passed away after an operation. George, who was 84 years of age had been a radio operator with Shoalhaven Marine Rescue Association since 1999 and prior to this was a member of Sussex Inlet Coastal Patrol. George will be sadly missed by his friends and colleagues at SMRA.
