Volunteer Sick Report

SMRA boat crew member and radio watch keeper Les Cranney is currently in Nowra Private Hospital after a nasty fall, it is believed he may have a fractured pelvis. At this stage we are unsure about him getting visitors but will update this when we find out.

Overturned vessel - Drum & Drumsticks

About 1250hrs on Sunday 27 January 2008 Port Kembla Water Police Police responded SMRA vessel SA-24 and RVCP vessel Colin Woods after receiving a report of a vessel overturned off Drum and Drumsticks, which is south of the township of Currarong and north of Point Perpindicular. RVCP vessel Colin Woods located the upturned vessel, The two divers who had been aboard the vessel manage to get to shore prior to the rescue vessels arriva.

Rescue at Gerroa

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

About 1135hrs on Thursday 24 January SA-24 was despatched to assist a person washed off rocks at Black Head at Gerroa. SA-24 attended the location as did Police, NSW Ambulance and the rescue helicopter, a fisherman stranded on rocks and cut off by the rising tide was winched aboard the helicopter and returned safely to shore.

Weather Station Update

As of the 17 January 2008 the weather station is now back online. We apologise for any inconvenience however owing to a lightning strike which destroyed our router and a malfunctioning video card the weather service was out of commission.

The Crookhaven River

We often get asked the question, “what is the entrance like”. Here are a few shots of the entrance to the Crookhaven River with a run out tide and a nor’easter, as you can see we have a vessel under tow!!!!!!!
